The story of Zero Branco
History and origins
The name Zero Branco comes from the Zero river, which flows through the area, while Branco recalls ancient land divisions of the area. Like many towns in the lower Treviso plain, the settlement developed in the medieval and modern periods around agricultural activities, aided by the presence of watercourses useful for irrigation and milling. However, the best-documented history concerns the rise of the great Venetian villas for country retreats, with noble families choosing this area to build their country residences starting in the seventeenth century.
Villa Guidini and its park
The symbolic monument of Zero Branco is Villa Guidini, built in the early eighteenth century in the Conche area. Its history begins at the end of the seventeenth century, when a member of the Dente family bought the land on which the villa would rise; the Dente family owned it until part of the nineteenth century, when the complex passed to the Guidini family, who handed down its name. The façade, of sober elegance with late Baroque details, leads into frescoed interiors decorated with stuccoes featuring floral motifs and figures of fruit and birds. The large park in front of the building is today a gathering place for the community, and the villa houses the town library and an auditorium dedicated to cultural events.
