The Po river marks the northern boundary of the municipality of Gaiba and directly shapes its geography: the main embankments trace the outline of the village, while the waters, when in flood, are a reminder that living alongside the river requires constant attention. The Golena di Gaiba is the area between the main embankment and the active course of the Po, periodically affected by the river's floods. This hydraulic regime has favoured the growth of riparian poplar and willow woods, reed beds and wetland habitats that provide refuge for various waterbird species, including herons and other waders typical of the floodplain areas along the lower Po. An economy still tied to agriculture
